BRAKE REPAIR

Auto brake repair is an essential part of vehicle maintenance, and ensuring your brakes are up to date can help you and those riding with you safe while on the road and help ensure your vehicle runs smoothly for more than a decade. While have heard about how important it is to keep their auto brakes in good condition, all too many do not service their brakes as soon as it is time to do so, which can put the condition of the vehicle at risk.

What is Auto Brake Repair?

Auto brake repair is the repair or replacement of auto brake parts, which may include the brake pads, rotors or calipers. Every vehicle, regardless if it is a new vehicle, an old pickup truck or a semi needs quality brakes that can be trusted while driving. The brakes not only keep the driver and everyone else in the vehicle safe, but good auto brakes can also protect many of the parts of the car from damage as well.

It is crucial to have your auto brakes regularly serviced to any issues with the vehicle from worsening or lasting for longer than necessary. Everyone who drives has a responsibility to protect themselves and other members in the car, as well as everyone else on the road, and quality, updated auto brakes are essential for ensuring safety and enjoyable driving.

While most understand the importance of servicing their brakes when it comes time to do so, all too many do not realize when a problem exists, or they may be skeptical of having their vehicle repaired and may be hesitant to admit there is a problem. By gaining a better understanding of the various parts of auto brakes - which among other parts include the brake pads, rotors and calipers - can help you know when there is a problem with your brakes and, even more importantly for some, understand what the repairs the auto repair shop made means.

Brakes are an intricate part of the vehicle, and brakes in good condition usually indicate a vehicle in good condition. On the other hand, brakes that are worn down and ineffective may indicate future, more severe vehicle troubles. Auto brake repair is about helping people keep their brakes in quality condition, which in return helps drivers stay safe and get the most out of their vehicle.

When to Have Your Brakes Serviced

To ensure your vehicle stays in good condition and remains on the road for more than a decade, it is essential to know when to have your brakes serviced. In some instances, the signs that auto brake repair is needed are quite visible, while at other times it may be harder to notice the warning signs. However, you can keep your brakes in excellent condition by taking your vehicle to an auto repair shop anytime there are the following criteria.

After 50,000 Miles

The first and most obvious sign that auto brake repair is needed is when the vehicle has driven for more than 50,000 miles since the last brake repair. Most brakes remain in good condition for 25,000 to 50,000 miles, so at the very least having the brakes inspected after 50,000 miles is essential. Ideally, it is best to have the brakes checked every 15,000 miles to ensure there have not been any problems to develop.

Brake Warning Light

Another more obvious time the brakes are an issue is if the brake warning light shows up on the dashboard. The brake warning light in almost every instance indicates that servicing is needed, so do not hesitate to contact your auto repair shop if the light starts to show, especially if there are any unusual noises when stopping or if the brakes are not as effective as they once were.

Unusual Noises

Brakes should not make a noticeable sound when stopping. If there is a noise, then it likely means the brake pads or rotors are worn down. The longer a vehicle has worn down brakes, the higher the chance more parts need replacement, which makes for a more expensive repair.

Brake Vibrations

If the vehicle vibrates or shakes while using the brakes, then there is likely an issue with the rotors or calipers. Brake vibrations are a more severe brake complication, and it is essential to drive as little as possible if the vehicle vibrates while coming to a stop. If it does occur, be sure to visit an auto repair shop as soon as possible to have the brakes serviced.

Pulling When You Brake

When brakes are worn down, it can sometimes cause the vehicle to pull to one direction. If your car does not come to a routine stop and the vehicle instead tends to drift to either the left or the right, then it is a sign that auto brake repair is needed as soon as possible.

Damaged Brake Pads

In some instances, the signs that auto brake repair is needed are very subtle. It can be helpful to check the brake pads yourself if you know how to do so correctly. If you check the brake pads yourself and they seem damaged in any way, it is time to visit an auto repair shop to have the brake pads replaced.

The Importance of Replacing Bad Brakes

All too many people decide not to have their brakes repaired as they are afraid they are going to be without their vehicle for too long, or the repair is going to be too expensive. Auto brake repair is one of the most common services an auto repair shop performs, and most of the time it can be completed in one day. While many understand how convenient it is to have the brakes serviced, there are still some who do not do so because they do not feel as if it is essential to do so. By understanding the importance of replacing bad brakes, however, you can gain a little extra motivation to take it in the next time issues with your brakes present themselves.

So why is replacing bad brakes so important? One of the more important reasons to do so promptly is because driving for too long with bad brakes can cause other, more concerning issues that are far more expensive to fix. For example, if the brake pads become worn down, then it is relatively simple and relatively inexpensive to replace. However, if the vehicle is driven for too long with worn brake pads, then it can damage the rotors as well, which are more expensive to replace.

Additionally, and perhaps the most crucial reason, you should replace bad brakes as soon as signs exist to stay safe while driving. Worn brake pads and rotors can cause the vehicle to pull to one side or not to stop as well when doing so is needed, which raises the risk of an accident. At the very least, driving with bad brakes can make for a much more unpleasant experience, especially if they make a loud noise or the vehicle vibrates when the brakes are pressed.
